More than 2,000 Tony Award winners, non-winners, producers, actors and guests came to The Plaza hotel directly after the awards show at the Beacon Theater, Sunday night at 11pm. Most were transported by special buses to shuttle people over. Arriving guests came through the hotel’s famous Palm Court, where Hank Lane pianist Emilee Floor played The Plaza’s antique piano. As Emilee played popular standards and Jazz, celebrities and non-celebrities filed by including, Matthew Broderick, Stephen Colbert with “Book of Mormon” stars Josh Gadd and Andrew Rannells, Tony winners Nikki M. James (“Book of Mormon”) and Sutton Foster (“Anything Goes”), Chris Rock, Kelsey Grammer with new wife Kayte and Al Pacino. “Late Show with David Letterman” band leader Paul Shaffer stopped by for a photo.
Guests moved on to the hotel’s Terrace Ballroom and were entertained by a Hank Lane Jazz Trio; A great dessert station was set up in the Terrace Ballroom foyer with amazing cupcakes! In the Grand Ballroom the Hank Lane Orchestra, directed by Kevin Osborne played a variety of dance music, starting off with the traditional Big Band and Swing sound of Frank Sinatra and the 1940s. By evening’s end, the band kicked it up several notches from favorites by Billy Joel to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. By 3am, the band had to bring a great night to a close!
